Susumaniello is one of the most characteristic and representative rediscovered native grape varieties of Valle d’Itria. Mainly growing in the surroundings of Brindisi is a red grape variety whose funny name refers to a donkey.
The origin of this curious name is lost in the mists of time but it is probably due to the fact that the vine, especially in its early years, provide a particularly rich crop, so rich to be overloaded with bunches making it look like a donkey at work. Le Rotaie, literally “the railway track”, is the name of our rosé wine produced entirely from Susumaniello grape variety.
The name takes inspiration from the position of the vineyard where these vines are growing; the vineyard, indeed, is crossed from north to south by the local railway. Its intense color is due to the very short maceration: the must stays only from 2 to 4 hours in contact with skins. Le Rotaie displays itself in the glass with a pale pink color, delicate and elegant even in the perfume, gives intense floral scents with notes of rose and strawberry.
Soft, fresh and persistent on the palate. It is an eclectic wine because its aromas, taste-olfactory consistency and marked freshness make it an incredibly versatile wine: less astringent and more structured than white wines, less tannic and more delicate than red wines.
Le Rotaie opens up a world of gastronomic opportunities in the glass, ranging from aperitifs to soups and fish dishes, passing through not very aged cheeses and white meat based dishes.
